With Nutritional Therapy as the cornerstone of health, there are invaluable tools to help you uncover the root cause of any health issues you may face!
Functional Lab testing is a key ally in identifying what’s hindering your journey to optimal health. The labs I use with my clients include:
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA): This functional test provides a detailed cellular reading of your body’s mineral and heavy metal levels. By analyzing recent hair growth samples, we gain insights into your body’s exposure to and elimination of various substances. This data helps prioritize personalized diet and lifestyle strategies to address your specific needs.
GI-MAP—Comprehensive Stool Testing: Despite its less-than-glamorous method, this test is crucial for understanding gut health. It delves deep into your microbiome, offering insights into what’s happening in your gut and guiding your approach to wellness.
MRT - Food Sensitivity Blood Test: While not always necessary, this test complements GI-MAP by identifying foods that may be triggering inflammation in your body. By temporarily eliminating these problematic foods while we repair your gut, we can pave the way for lasting health improvements.
Choosing which labs to pursue depends on your health concerns and goals.

Ever wondered what it’s like to work with a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP)?
Well, wonder no more! Here’s a glimpse into the journey ahead:
The first step is scheduling a Free Introductory Call. During this call, we’ll dive into your health concerns and goals, allowing us to craft a personalized game plan from the get-go. It’s not just about getting acquainted; it’s about setting you on the path to a healthier YOU!
Once we agree to work together, you’ll receive a series of assessments to fill out:
Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ): This questionnaire, with over 320 questions, delves deep into your health landscape.
Food and Mood Journal: Keep track of what you eat, when you eat it, and how you feel. This judgment-free journal helps us pinpoint factors like stress, paving the way for better results.
Initial Interview Questionnaire: This covers your health history and symptoms, providing crucial insights into your unique needs.
If we’ve discussed lab testing, you’ll receive kits in the mail, such as Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, GI MAP Stool Testing, MRT Food Sensitivity Lab, or all three. I’ll notify you once these are mailed out. Remember, the sooner you complete them, the sooner we’ll have comprehensive results to guide us.
While awaiting lab results (which can take up to four weeks to receive), we don’t waste any time! Once you’ve completed your assessments, you’ll have the option to book a review session. We’ll discuss your results and make manageable recommendations to kickstart your journey towards better health.
When your lab results arrive, we’ll schedule another session to integrate these findings into your protocol.
Your timeline for sessions begins here!
For optimal results, I recommend a 12-week commitment post-lab results. During this period, we’ll have 2 virtual sessions a month, ideally spaced every 2 weeks. These sessions are vital for monitoring progress, making adjustments, and addressing any questions you may have via our secure messaging portal.
Before our final session, you’ll complete the NAQ again, providing us with a fresh baseline for your health assessment.
Remember, our approach is tailored to YOU—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. During our introductory call, we discussed what session frequency best aligns with your needs, so there's no pressure if 12 weeks isn't for you.

Importance of Balancing Your Minerals

Did you know our energy comes from minerals; each mineral is designed to function with our hormones, digestive processes, blood sugar, detoxification, and stress levels. When out of balance, our energy depletes as our body tries to work harder for the lack of minerals, and those pesky symptoms begin to arise. An imbalance of minerals affects your physical and mental well-being.
Minerals may only compensate for 4% of our body composition but are uniquely different as minerals are not something the body can produce and can only be obtained by what we eat. You’ve heard the saying “You are what you eat” should be changed to “You are what minerals you consume.” Food is no longer as nutrient-dense as it once was, thanks to farming preferences and synthetic fertilizers deplete soil nutrients.* This is where organic products are preferred to minimize the consumption of these toxic chemicals.
Minerals in the body include transferring nutrients across cell membranes and guiding what and where nutrients should and should not go. Minerals are how your body contracts and relaxes amongst all your muscles. Thousands of our enzymes use minerals as co-factors for every system in the body. Keeping the pH balance in homeostasis (the body maintaining a constant and stable environment) requires minerals, and nerve transmission in the body can only be done through minerals.
Minerals are the spark plugs of our body. Without minerals, our source of energy would not exist.
Symptoms that show signs of an imbalance of minerals include but are not limited to everything. Yes, Everything! From digestive issues like bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux, to name a few. Mood issues like aggression, Type A personality, frustration, anger, anxiety, depression, and more. Weight gain, weight loss, dry skin, eczema, oily skin, loss of hair, brain fog, memory issues, food intolerances, autoimmune issues, acne, PMS, and any other issues you can think of or even struggling with.
Minerals that work together to function optimally are co-factors, while other minerals work against that mineral. The key is to find the right balance for the best absorption. A great example of this is someone struggling with iron deficiency or anemia. Doctors will recommend various ways to raise the iron level and only focus on iron by itself from iron supplements or extreme iron infusion. While these may seem to work at the moment, they won’t allow relief from long-term symptoms and will continue to be an issue in the future. Focusing on a single mineral will not encourage a successful absorption of the mineral as it needs co-factors.
The best way to obtain the mineral you lack and its co-factors is through natural food. Natural food is balanced properly with the necessary co-factors, so considering the correct balance of other minerals is optional, unlike supplements.
Examples of foods with iron include:
Beef, Oysters, Clams, Sardines, Liver and Kidneys, Pumpkin seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Black Strap Molasses, Nettle Leaf Infusions, White Beans (like Cannellini), Lentils, Kidney Beans, Chickpeas, And Dark Chocolate
In our world of soil depletion and toxic chemicals touching our food sources, supplements are necessary to find relief from symptoms faster and encourage continued mineral balance.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a great way to determine your mineral balance. This functional test provides a unique cellular reading of your body’s mineral and heavy metal levels. By analyzing small samples of recent hair growth, you can get a snapshot of what your body has been exposed to and what it is eliminating through the hair. This data is valuable for prioritizing which diet and lifestyle strategies will most effectively address your bio-individual needs.
HTMA tells us your -
Metabolic Type: this rates how quickly your body is metabolizing energy and what macro ratios are ideal for you. Mineral Status: this shows an overall snapshot of the major minerals in your body, including if any are very high or low. Heavy Metal Excretion: this can indicate if you are exposed to any specific heavy metals and whether your body is excreting (or storing) them. Mineral Ration: all minerals affect each other to some degree, so these ratios highlight which systems need the most nutritional therapy support.
Once the lab is completed and interpreted, you’ll receive a guide of recommended foods, supplements, and lifestyle support to get closer to a balanced life.
